Deep within me still is the space of Africa. The harsh terrain of Luipaardsvlei, the lushness and the trees of the Wanderer and Sebakwe, the open expanse of Geita. The sense of freedom not found in towns and cities with their neat formal footpaths and narrow paved roads.  We were only a few years in each place, not long enough to put down roots but long enough to create a strong sense of identity and memory. We touched the earth lightly then moved on. Then the boarding school years in England with the bustle of activities on the river at Bedford and the quirky charms of Sandwich.
